THE LUXURIOUS ice cream by Walls has been celebrating its 25th anniversary recently with the release of the limited edition Marc de Champagne ice cream. Now Magnum have two new varieties at different ends of the taste spectrum; Black Espresso and Pink Raspberry.
Wrapped in the very differing colours of black and pink, these two flavours are a choice dependent on your mood and what your taste buds are fancying, as their advertising slogan suggests. Like the name conveys, Black Espresso packs a very caffeinated punch and adds a darker nature to the Magnum taste. The crunch of the dark chocolate is the same as other Magnums, as is the vanilla ice cream, but with every mouthful there is a strong coffee after taste. The bitterness of coffee is a very familiar taste amongst everyone but it doesn’t overpower the sugary chocolate and ice cream, creating a nice oxymoronic taste.
If you’re after sweet refreshment then Pink Raspberry is the way to go. The pink chocolate covering is very sweet and infused in to the ice cream is a raspberry purée. This purée again leaves an after taste but this one is a tangy, fruity taste that almost brings the summer in to your mouth.
Both flavours could easily become Magnum favourites and, given the chance, can sit comfortably within the already formidable Magnum family. It continues to brand itself as a luxurious ice cream and these two are conceivably luxurious flavours.
