Mr. Kipling Deluxe Whirls

THE LATEST company to go upmarket and release a fancy new product line is Mr. Kipling with their Deluxe range. As well as adding some new cakes, Mr. Kipling have also upgraded their Viennese Whirls by adding a couple of new twists to the classic recipe.

The Rich Choc Whirls and Salted Caramel Whirls both portray a sweet and moreish picture and that’s exactly what they are. Apart from the iconic style, Mr. Kipling have changed just about everything in creating these new Whirls. The two Whirls look slightly bigger than normal and the top one is now a chocolate coated shortbread biscuit. Gone is the jam and cream centre and instead you either get a very healthy blob of Rich Choc or Salted Caramel fondue spreads.

The Salted Caramel Whirls taste exactly like a Millionaire’s Shortbread and is just as moreish and indulgent. Those who are familiar with Millionaire’s Shortbread and enjoy this dessert will very much enjoy this Whirl. Despite the name, the caramel doesn’t taste particularly salted which, depending on how you feel about this American trend, arguably makes this Whirl taste better and more like a Millionaire’s Shortbread. This is probably the most moreish of the two, especially if you have a sweet tooth.

The Rich Choc Whirl looks more like a chocolate spread but tastes like a rich chocolate fondue that you would find topped on a chocolate cake. The only real negative of this Whirl is that the two chocolate parts rather cancel each out instead of combining together. You don’t get two differing chocolate tastes so it’s hard to tell how much impact the fondue has on the whole. But overall this is still as moreish and Mr. Kipling has produced two really nice cakes. The perfect end to a meal or the next perfect companion to have with a cup of tea, these are going to become some serious guilty pleasures. Perhaps the only problem is that there is only four in a pack.
