Walkers Crispy & Melty Crackers

CRACKER CRISPS became a phenomenon last year and Walkers have now added another competitor into the mix following their Sensations Crispy Thins brand. Split into Crispy and Melty Crackers, the new four flavours try to take the best from the Ritz and Jacob’s variations and come come in the four most notable flavours; Cheese, Salt & Vinegar, Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream & Onion.

The Crispy Crackers are in the same shape and style as Ritz’s Crisp & Thin but are arguably more flavourful and less stodgy than their counterparts. The Cheese flavour is quite cheesy, funnily enough, and are as moreish as Cheese Savouries tend to be. It has to be said that Walkers have done very well with their flavouring and have probably got the mixture just right.

Their Salt & Vinegar Crispy Crackers taste very similar to the old favourite, Salt & Vinegar Curls. If you used to feast on those when you were younger then these will not only be very moreish for you but also be reminiscent of times past. These are a bit stodgier than the Cheese flavour but not as much as the Ritz varieties and the stodginess only really kicks in with the more you have. They are nice and again Walkers have got the flavouring just right here.

The Melty Crackers resemble Jacob’s Cracker Crisps and have the same Buttery texture which makes these snacks extremely moreish. The Sour Cream & Onion flavour isn’t really distinctive despite being quite flavourful. For those who don’t like the usual Sour Cream & Onion flavour, don’t necessarily be put off by these as the flavour isn’t overpowering and tastes slightly plain.

The Sweet Chilli flavour has much more of a taste to them and if you have to pick between the two, this is the flavour to go for. There isn’t as much of a kick as other Sweet Chilli varieties which arguably makes them more enjoyable. There is a slight heat but it doesn’t build up over time or become overpowering at any point. That Buttery texture continues to make these really moreish and definitely a nice snack treat.

Overall, Walkers Crispy Crackers are probably nicer than Ritz’s and possibly more flavourful than their Sensations Crispy Thins. There’s also a slight nostalgic feel with the similar taste of Cheese Savouries and Salt & Vinegar Curls. As for their Melty Crackers, they are probably on a par with Jacob’s but with Jacob’s being the original it’s hard not to prefer them to these.
