A FEW Crisp manufacturers have tried to create healthier products recently by baking their Crisps instead of frying them. Hula Hoops are the latest company to do this with their new range; Golden Hoops.
Named due to the golden brown colouring of the Crisps after being baked, instead of their usual thin yellow shape, these Golden Hoops are said to have 30% less fat. They’re a bit bigger than normal Hula Hoops and have a texture similar to Pretzels or Cheese Savouries. These are available in three flavours; Cheese, Salt & Vinegar and Sour Cream & Chive and they are in packs of six bags.
Out of the three flavours, the Salt & Vinegar flavour is arguably the nicest. They taste similar to other Salt & Vinegar snacks and they have the right quantity so that neither the Salt nor the Vinegar is overpowering. Being baked, these have a slight buttery taste to them which, like Jacob’s Cracker Crisps, makes them really moreish.
The Sour Cream & Chive flavour tastes similar to its Pringles counterpart. These aren’t as powdery as the Cheese flavour and if you like the flavour of the Pringles, then you’ll quite enjoy these Sour Cream & Chive Golden Hoops.
Unfortunately, the Cheese flavour isn’t as nice as the others which is a real shame. They taste like another KP Snack that comes out every Christmas, Cheese Footballs. These tend to split the opinion and that will again happen with these Cheese Golden Hoops. The powdery Cheese taste is slightly overpowering and the powder gets all over your fingers which is hard to wash off. Over time, the powdery Cheese taste starts to burn which makes these rather unenjoyable.
