THE FESTIVITIES may well be over, but there’s no reason why you can’t still enjoy some of the seasonal foods that have been released over the Christmas period.
Higgidy were one of those brands to release a seasonal edition of their food; a Christmassy Turkey, Bacon and Stuffing Pie. If you are unaware of Higgidy then you’ll instantly be put off by the price of their pies. They’re quite small for what you get and would only be good for a meal for one person which, at around £3 a pop, is quite an expensive treat.
But if you are aware of Higgidy and already like their products then there’s no reason why you wouldn’t like this pie. The lattice style lid is something different to ordinary pies and it’s quite nice and crisp. You don’t feel short-changed with the filling as it really meaty. The meat is quite tender too which makes it very nice. Unfortunately, like with many products, the tang of the cranberry is very rare and could make the pie a lot juicier if there was more cranberries involved. But when you do get that tang, it’s a very nice mouthful.
Overall it’s a pie worth trying, especially as the flavour is something different inside a pastry casing. It sounds enticing and is quite nice but it’s just far too small. And at a time when money can be quite tight, shelling out something that doesn’t really cover a meal is probably quite far down the list of priorities.
